House and Office Moving Suggestions
- Plan your removal well in advance; leaving it till exchange of contracts could end up with no removals company being available at the time you need them. Involve removals companies when you have accepted an offer on your house.
- Book your removal service as soon as possible, always confirm date & time.
- Get your removals company to visit you before moving and get a written quote from them.
- Don’t forget to say about garden stuff, including plants, etc, as they cannot be stacked.
- Be honest with the removals company – do not expect them to deal with items that they could not see on their visit and that you did not tell them about. If you do not, the removals company might arrive with too few lorries.
- Ensure that your removals company has your contact phone number and you theirs.
- Furniture such as system furniture may be better being dismantled before moving.
- Box as much as possible and ensure that all items are packed both securely and tightly. This allows faster loading and easier storage.
- Check that larger items, such as wardrobes, are going to fit in your new home.
- Organise your mail to be redirected to your new address.
- Remember to move your phone number with you, or let people know your new number.
- On the day, remember to check your final meter readings (gas, electricity and water).
- Ensure that all legalities- in particular the exchange of contracts – are OK and complete.
